UK Travel Alert: London Tube Strike announced by RMT, Unite, TSSA Union
4th July 2015
London Underground workers are preparing for a London Tube strike from 18:30 on Wednesday, 8th of July 2015. The strike action on the Tube is expected to be a 24-hour walkout of RMT , Unite and TSSA members.
RMT and TSSA union members advised they intend to be backing the 24-hour strike action originally planned by the drivers’ union ASLEF, which is planned to start 21:30 on Wednesday, 8th of July. ASLEF union have called for strike to protest against more overnight and weekend shifts in relation with the overnight services to start in September 2015.
The labour action has the potential to cause severe overcrowding and delays. If the industrial action goes ahead, there will be no Tube service from late afternoon on 8 July and no London Tube service on Thursday 9 July. All other public transport services and roads are expected to be extremely busy. Significant disruptions are expected on alternative transport as well.
Travellers are advised to:
- plan plenty of extra time to reach their destination
- plan alternative travel routes where required
- Check other media sources before starting the journey
Negotiations with the Unions to avert the industrial action are ongoing.
