Corporate Traveller’s Guide for Travellers flying from/to LaGuardia Airport

17th February 2015

Corporate travellers among you may have had meetings in and around New York before and wondered at time of booking their bussines trip, which of the 3 airports is the best option for your journey. LaGuardia is the smallest of New Yorks 3 main airports  mainly handling domestic flights and is located in Queens (on the Grand Central Parkway) the between JFK airport and Manhattan. Since we have covered John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in part 1 and 2 of  our New York business travel destination guide, let’s take a look at LaGuardia Airport (LGA).

Car rental

If you are looking to rent a car and drive, it will take you about 20 to 40 minutes to reach your destination within New York City, and you should consider the tolls you’ll need to pay. Rental cars, trucks and other vehicles are available from a number of car rental companies, such as Advantage, Budget, Hertz, Payless, Alamo, Dollar, National, Thrifty, Avis and Enterprise. In order to reach them from the airport, a frequent free shuttle bus service between the terminals and the car rentals’ pickup/drop-off locations are provided.

Taxis & Chauffeured Limousines

If you prefer to take a taxi, please note that the safety tip given at the taxi section of Newark Airport above is also valid here. In front of all terminals, taxi service is available. It takes about 20 to 40 minutes to go into the city and it costs between $5 (£3.13, €4.01) for between terminal routes, to about $35 (£21.91, €28.04) to JFK and about $83 (£51.96, €66.48) to Newark Airport (plus $17.50 (£10.95, €14.02) surcharge), not including bridge tolls (additionally about $3). To go to New York City you may be charged between $10 (£6.28, €8.01) to Queens, to $72 (£45.05, €57.65) to Staten Island, depending on where exactly you want to go to. Taxis are paid in cash only. If you are looking for VIP corporate traveller services and need something more than a taxi, you always can book a chauffeured limousine service, which travel management companies, like Flightline Travel, can arrange for you at the time of your flight booking.

Airport Shuttle Services

Bus and shuttle services are also available from LaGuardia, such as NYC Airporter, which departs every 30 minutes towards Port Authority Bus Terminal, Grand Central Station and Penn Station. However, travellers need to purchase tickets online for bus and shuttle services. A good alternative option is the ‘Go Airlink NYC’ shuttle service. Furthermore, the New York City subways and buses go to LaGuardia as well. You will need $2.00 (£1.25, €1.60) in change, a token or Metrocard for any public bus and a token or Metrocard for any train. For more information on fares and routes, see the MTA’s page.

For connections between the airports, you will have to calculate between half an hour to about one and a half hours to reach JFK or Newark, depending on traffic if you choose to go via road.

Hotels & Accommodation

Leisure and corporate travellers can choose from a wide range of hotels and accommodation conveniently located near LaGuardia, with some offering conference and meeting facilities. Some of the hotel options include the Comfort Inn and Suites, Courtyard by Marriott LaGuardia, LaGuardia Marriott and SpringHill Suites by Marriott.

Currency exchange services are available in the Central Terminal Building, provided by Travelex. Plus, you’ll find ATMs in various locations, offered by Wells Fargo or Bank of America.
