May 2014 – Strike update for travellers to London (UK), Italy & France

United Kingdom: London Tube Services strikes April 28-30 and May 5-8 

The RMT union, which represents the London underground workers, has called for five days of strike action in the next weeks.

Tube services will be affected as follows:

  • First walkout will start at 9pm on Monday 28 April and throughout the whole of Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 April. The strike is expected to last for 48 hours.
  • The second walkout is planned for 72 hours and will start at 9 pm on Monday 5 May and last for 72 hours until 8th May 2014. Last trains will be earlier than usual on strike days. For information please visit tfl.gov.uk website.

Unless called off, these strike actions are likely to cause widespread travel disruptions to London underground services, including train delays and cancellations. Road traffic in the London region is likely to be affected as well.

Leisure and business travellers are advised to keep checking timetables and plan extra time for travel and consider alternative means of transportation during the industrial actions.

Italy: Several strikes announced for May 2014

The union representing the Italian air traffic controllers (ENAV) and baggage handlers at Milan-Linate and Milan-Malpensa have called for a strike on Monday, April 28th for 24hours and Saturday, May 3 2014 from 12:30 to 16:30 o’clock. Furthermore, airport personnel at several airports have announced a 24-hour strike and Alitalia flight attendants strike measures from 12:00 to 16:00 o’clock on May16.
It is expected that the industrial action will cause several flight delays and cancellations, unless called-off. We advise leisure and business travellers to please check the status of their flights, to plan extra time for your travel and arrive at the airport earlier as increased delays are likely.

France: Major airline pilots’ union announced strike from 3rd to 30th May 2014

Major national pilots union (SNPL France ALPA) has called for a moth-long strike from May 3rd to May 30 2014. Unless called-off, this industrial action is likely to cause widespread travel disruptions, including flight delays and cancellations. France based airlines’ networks and the airports Paris, Lyon and Marseille will be affected.
