Business travel agents – UK travel alert: Christmas rail services disruption for Gatwick, Heathrow and Manchester Airport

4th December 2013

Railline-business-travel-agents-news-alertsRail-Line business travel agents would like to inform that during the Christmas period, 24th December 2013 until 2nd January 2014, network rail will carry out several rail improvement works which are expected to affect train travel on all southern routes to and from London Victoria and all routes in the Gatwick Airport area. Rail improvement works include replacing a major rail junction near Purley, upgrading signalling at Victoria and working on a new platform at Gatwick Airport station. Network Rail has also planned separate engineering works for rail services from and to Heathrow and Manchester airports.

Flightline Travel Management has been informed that the following rail services are expected to be disrupted during Christmas Day and New Years Eve:

Gatwick Express Service will not operate from Wednesday 25th December 2013 to Wednesday 1st January 2014

Business travel agents advice: We advise travellers to use southern services and/ or First Capital Connect services between Brighton and Gatwick Airport from Friday 27 December to Wednesday 1 January and between Sutton and London Blackfriars on Friday 27 December. In addition, National Express will be running a bus service to and from London. Flightline Travel Management encourages leisure and business travellers to plan their journey in advance or travel by car and park at Gatwick Airport. If you are travelling by public transport please plan your journey carefully, check the full National Rail Service Updates before you travel and prepare for possible delays by allowing extra time to get to the airport.

First Capital Connect (FCC) trains will not run on Boxing Day. In addition, rail services between East Croydon and Gatwick Airport will not operate from Friday 27th December to Wednesday 1st January 2014.

Business travel agents advice: National Rail recommends travellers to use Southern services on connecting services from Sutton to Gatwick Airport and on services between London Bridge and Coulsdon Town (and the connecting bus to / from Gatwick Airport / Three Bridges).

First Great Western (FGW) rail services between Reigate and Gatwick Airport will be replaced by buses from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th December. National Rail also encourages travellers to use southern services between Redhill and Dorking Deepdene. For the latest FGW rail travel service updates please also visit the First Great Western website.

Southern: A revised Southern service will operate between Christmas and New Year. Please check the Southern Rail’s Christmas Timetable Guide for full information on southern rail service alterations during the Christmas period.

Heathrow Express will not be operating on 25th and 26th December 2013 due to engineering work carried out by Network Rail. On the evening of Tuesday 24th December trains will operate to an amended timetable. From 27th December 2013 to 1 January 2014, Heathrow Express will operate half hourly service from Heathrow Airport to London Paddington. The train operator will be running a revised inter terminal transfer service until end of service for the above stated time periods.

Business travel agents advice: We advise all travellers, who have planned a leisure or business trip during the Christmas period to please check the Heathrow Express Timetable and Full Service Plan before starting their journey.

Northern Rail Services: Rail network improvements at Manchester Victoria area will affect Northern Rail services between 27 December and 1 January. As a result no Northern Rail Services will be serving Manchester Victoria after the last service on Christmas Eve until Thursday 2 January 2014 when services resume. Between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport stations several lines will be closed at various times from 23 to 27 December. Buses will replace trains on some of the affected routes.

Business travel agents advice: Flightline Travel Management recommends travellers to check their travel details directly on the train operators’ website, when booking tickets and before starting their rail travel.
